My fellow Montgomerians,

Challenging times call for creative solutions to issues facing Montgomery.  My name is Scott Simmons and I’m running for mayor.  I have a clear vision for our city.  We can have safer neighborhoods, a more vibrant downtown, stronger schools, and a growing economy that creates jobs.

Together we will ...

Create jobs

Stimulate job growth through the private sector.

* Designate areas of the city "Re-Birth Zones" providing special
incentives for businesses to set up shop.

* Montgomery Mall will be the first Re-Birth Zone.  Special tax incentives and a police substation will lure businesses and shoppers back to the mall.

* Continue the downtown renovation by increasing emphasis on residential development and private investment.

* Veto any attempt to institute an occupational tax - it's a job
killer. I want to create jobs, not tax them.

* Make Montgomery a tourist destination.

* Celebrate Montgomery’s rich history, focusing on civil rights, civil war, musicians and the arts.

Fight Crime

* Set up neighborhood police substations to deter crime where you
live.

* Set up a real time crime alert system to inform citizens of crimes in their neighborhood.

* Decrease the burden on our jails by pursuing alternative weekend work details for non-violent offenders.

* Improve enforcement of immigration laws, protecting jobs of our citizens.

* Reduce crime by helping recently released prisoners find jobs.

Improve the Quality of Life

* We will provide free bus rides for all by offsetting rider fees with advertising
income.

* Establish “Common Sense Green” initiatives.

Support Education

* Partner with schools to enforce truancy laws.

* Continue the city's commitment to the building plan.

Reduce Costs of Government

* Institute a new Total Quality Management Program to improve efficiency in city services.

* Put a stop to non-essential personal use of city vehicles

* Reduce legal fees by pursuing a positive relationship with our neighbor, Pike Road.

*Establish “Volunteer Montgomery” to enhance our city’s services.

* Set up a “Montgomery Faith Team” to assist our city in emergencies and natural disasters.

Improve Accountability

* Provide email alerts to inform citizens of municipal functions.

* Provide regular reports of all discretionary Capital Improvement spending.

These are just some of our aggressive, yet affordable, ideas for improving
Montgomery. I welcome your ideas and input through this community website

Thank you for your support, and I look forward to a vigorous debate about the future of Montgomery.
